Elkhorn Followup

The golf course deal is official. It will be nice to have green grass behind the house. Actually it already is. That is how I tipped off the Record to the deal. I noted increased watering and mowing over the past month, as well as what looked like tours of the course. The fairways came back pretty fast, but I walked over to the green on #8 which is behind my house and if it is any indication as to the condition of the other greens they have a lot of work to do. The tee boxes on 9 looked good, so hopefully that is how all the other tees and greens look and #8 green could be an anomaly. It looks like I’ll finally get to play the course after living on it for 7 years. It should make for a nice public course.

STOCKTON – Sierra Golf Management of Chowchilla closed a deal Tuesday to become partial owner and manager of Elkhorn Country Club in Stockton.

The 18-hole golf course and banquet facility on Elkhorn Drive near Davis and Eight Mile roads went into foreclosure in February after 47 years as a private club.

The management company has an ownership stake in the facility and will manage it. The company will begin work today to improve the playing condition of the golf course, which suffered as a result of its closure. The company hopes to reopen the course in November. Stockton attorney Patrick Curry led a group of local investors that also has an ownership stake.

Sierra Golf Management has five other courses, all public, in its portfolio: Pheasant Run Golf Club of Chowchilla, Madera Municipal Golf Course, Forest Meadows Golf Course and Resort in Murphys, Salinas Fairways Golf Club, and Yosemite Lakes Park Golf Club in Coarsegold.
